Uploading HEIC Images in Risk Warden

Created by Colin Simpson, Modified on Thu, 10 Jul at 4:08 PM by Brent Young

If you use the Risk Warden mobile apps on iPad or Android, you can upload HEIC images directly without any issues. The mobile apps fully support HEIC format and handle these images smoothly during report creation.

However, if you try to upload the same HEIC images through the Risk Warden web browser app on a non-Mac operating system (such as Windows or Linux), the upload will fail. This happens because  browsers on these systems don’t support the HEIC format, leading to an error like "No valid data available for upload."

This is a limitation of the browser and operating system—not Risk Warden—and cannot be fixed within the app.

How to avoid this issue:

  1. Convert HEIC images before uploading:
You can use free HEIC-to-JPG converters available in the Windows Store or online. Many converters support batch processing to save time.

  2. Change your Apple device’s photo format settings:
To skip the need for converters, you can set your iPhone or iPad to save new photos directly in JPG format instead of HEIC. This way, your images will be compatible with all browsers and platforms without extra steps.

To change this on your Apple device:

    • Open the Settings app.

    • Tap Camera.

    • Tap Formats.

    • Under Camera Capture, select Most Compatible instead of High Efficiency.

This setting makes your device save photos as JPG (instead of HEIC), ensuring smooth uploads through any browser or system.
